For over 30 years, Catherine has tirelessly advocated wellness and social justice, giving voice to those living on the margins of society and promoting a healthy racial dialogue worldwide. Her unique storytelling style has made her a popular speaker and workshop facilitator and continues to inspire her students in courses on race, gender and prejudice. She is a newspaper columnist, a frequent radio commentator and the author of several well-known books, including Standing on Their Shoulders: A Celebration of the Wisdom of African American Women.
Catherine is Clara Carter Acree Distinguished Professor of Socio Cultural Studies and professor of Social Science as well as Director of the Lane Center for Community Engagement and Service at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia. She is also Executive Director of Aunt Maggie's Kitchen Table, Inc., a resource center that assists low income families. Angelique is a graduate of Morehouse School of Medicine and Emory University School of Medicine Pediatric Residency. When her clinical practice showed her the limitations of an exclusive focus on western medicine, she expanded her medical expertise, becoming certified through Dr. Andrew Weil's program in Integrative Medicine at University of Arizona, and studying acupuncture and other medical practices in China and Tibet.
